Spotlight on the PA 8th Congressional District
Submitted by IP on Mon, 2010-04-19 05:50
Republican Winner, Mike Fitzpatrick
The 8th Pennsylvania Congressional District serves Bucks County along with a small portion of Montgomery County and Northeast Philadelphia. Democrat Patrick Murphy served as representative from 2007 to 2011. Republican Mike Fitzpatrick held this seat from 2005 to 2007, then lost it by around 1,500 votes to Democrat Patrick Murphy in 2006. This time the result was vastly different. Fitzpatrick reclaimed his old seat by a convincing margin of 54% to 46% over Murphy.

Issues:
- Eliminate unnecessary government regulation and reduce taxes on businesses
- Reduce federal deficit and debt by reducing the size and scope of the federal government
- Health insurance should belong to the individual and be completely portable
- Military leaders in the field should decide policy, rather than politicians in Washington
- National energy policy should include safe, nuclear power, clean coal, responsible offshore drilling and economical, renewable energy
- Right of American citizens to keep and bear arm
- Veterans deserve our full support and all the benefits they have been promised
- Strengthen and protect our borders as well as enforce the immigration laws
- Oppose “card check” legislation
- Make sure Medicare and Social Security are solvent
“Government does not create jobs. Free enterprise, business, industry and entrepreneurs do. I prefer to expand employment opportunities by eliminating unnecessary, unwieldy government regulation and reduce taxes, which allow small businesses to invest, grow and create family-sustaining jobs. We must create an environment that allows American business to compete freely in the marketplace and we need to reverse the trend of outsourcing jobs to foreign countries.” “Federal spending is out of control. It is imperative that we reduce the burgeoning federal deficit and our national debt by reducing the size and scope of the federal government. Astronomical debt is not the legacy we want for future generations. It is far more responsible to stop further expansion of the role of government in our daily lives and work to reduce some of our current obligations.”
