Spotlight on the NY 20th Congressional District
Submitted by IP on Wed, 2010-04-14 11:52
Republican Winner, Chris Gibson
The 20th Congressional District of New York, largely rural, is located in eastern New York and includes all or parts of Columbia, Dutchess, Delaware, Essex, Greene, Otsego, Rensselaer, Saratoga, Warren and Washington counties. Traditionally, this has been a conservative district until the election of Kirsten Gillibrand (D) in 2006. Upon Gillibrand’s appointment to the Senate, Scott Murphy (D) won this seat in a special election in early 2009. Decorated U.S. Army Col. Ret. Chris Gibson attracted energetic grassroots and Tea Party support and though he trailed in the polls for most of the campaign, a late surge found him up by double digits, 55% to 45% after the results came in.
