Spotlight on the CO 4th Congressional District

Republican Winner, Cory Gardner
The 4th Congressional District of Colorado is located in eastern Colorado encompassing most of Colorado's rural eastern plains as well as the larger cities of Fort Collins, Greeley, Loveland and Longmont along Colorado's Front Range in north-central Colorado. It is represented in the 111th Congress by Freshman Democrat Betsy Markey. In 2004, voters in the CO 4th favored George W. Bush by a whopping 17% margin, but just four years later, only narrowly favored John McCain. Republican Wayne Allard, who retired in 2008 after two terms as U.S. Senator from Colorado, held this seat during the 1990’s. Cory Gardner easily defeated one termer Betsy Markey, 53% to 41%. During his tenure as state Rep., Gardner has worked hard to fight for rural families and small businesses. His priorities as a U.S. Congressman will be economic development, healthcare, and education.

"The strength of our families starts with the emphasis we place on life, the unborn, the living and the old. I believe we need more emphasis on life, protecting it at all stages." "We can also strengthen our families by taking the bold step to correct policies and entitlements that promote divisions rather than family unity. The family in its many forms is the center of every culture. If we want our culture to survive we must keep our families strong."
