2010 Races at a Glance
During this election cycle, Key House Races At A Glance provided current snapshots of competitive U.S. House races. The blocks below represent the final snapshots prior to Nov. 2.
Those wanting to contribute to candidates could easily determine which candidates were close on the heels of their Dem rivals and needed a boost. Financial or “on the ground” help could be targeted toward those Republican candidates who were in the tightest races where an extra boost would make a big difference.
The newest GOP House members, especially those who won by close margins, are going be high on the list of Dem targets in 2012. When the 2012 campaign kicks into full swing, GOP incumbents with substantial war chests will intimidate potential Dem challengers and also be in good positions to fend off eventual Dem primary winners. So we have to keep the support going between election cycles.
Note: The (bw) symbol at the end of the District & Race narrative indicates content 'borrowed' from Brian Walsh - "The Race of the Day" at Townhall.com.

The Dems have nominated State Rep. Gary McDowell, who, like Stupak, claims to be against abortion to hold on to the seat.. The contest for the Republican nomination was as close as they come with surgeon Dan Benishek winning by 15 votes over State Sen. Jason Allen by only 15 votes. |

STATEN ISLAND & PARTS OF BROOKLYN It’s hard to comprehend that any district within commuting distance to NYC could lean Republican but this one, surprisingly does - McCain even beat Obama here. A Republican scandal allowed Democrat Michael McMahon to cruise to victory in 2008. But McMahon’s vote against health care reform did not endear him to left leaning groups in the district and he is up against the U.S. Marine Corps Veteran, FBI Special Agent, and businessman Mike Grimm who won the GOP primary with a convincing 68.6% of the vote. |

CENTRAL PA, DAUPHIN, LEBANON, SCHUYLKILL & PARTS OF BERKS & PERRY COUNTIES Democrat Tim Holden, the supposed Blue Dog moderate has represented the PA-17 since 2003. The GOP's Dave Argall, Pennsylvania State Senator for the 29th District, will try to wrest that seat away from Holden by his focus on the more than 6 million jobs that have been lost since Tim Holden and the Democrats took control of Congress. Argall will need a sizable campaign stash to complete with the entrenched Holden, even in this Republican leaning district. |
